Having a first aid kit is very important. There may be first aid kits available in the market that you can buy at an instant, they would still lack the necessary items you would need to cater to the possible emergencies you would need. Instead of waiting for the time when you would be regretting buying a first aid kit that is not complete, you can buy your own materials and make a kit of your own that suits your needs. There are essentials that you can’t do without but you can save money in seeting up your kit if you personalize them.

To make your own home-made first aid, you first need to have a small box or bag that is light in weight, one that is portable and can carry all your supplies inside. It would be best if it were waterproof as well, especially when you travel with it far away from your home. But if you don’t want a waterproof one, a simple zipper bag can be all you need to have your bag for the kit.

Basic medical supplies should always be present inside your kit. the members of your family should be the corresponding number to how many supplies your kit has but if bandages and gauze as well as other light items are concerned, the more you have, the better. The essentials you should have are hypoallergenic tapes, antiseptic lotion or spray and wash, 4×4 gauze pads (sterile). bandages and adhesive bandages with different sizes, gloves, antibiotic cream or ointment, scissors, tweezers and oral antihistamines in cases of allergies.

There may also be other items that you must have on your first aid kit and they would mostly be in relation to a certain family member’s condition. Doctor prescribed shots and medications can also be kept. Place a car with emergency numbers in it, ipecac, charcoal tablets and if you are into going to mountains and trails, its always good to have a snake bite kit inside your first aid kit. Make sure that your kit is separated into two sections. The first section should be the basic supplies while the second one should be where your medications would be found. Keep them in small zipper bags as well. Knowing what you would need to have in first aid kits is important. With a personalized one, you will know what you have and place in the most important emergency supplies that would apply to your family’s conditions.
