Scottish Women Still Have More Numbers In Higher Education Than Men

July 30, 2011 No Comments

Education is very important for anyone. With enough education, we can have enough qualifications to be able to get a decent job and get a better life than what we have now especially if we grew up in hardships. But in Scotland, recent figures show how there are more women in higher education than men. It was released by Scottish Funding Council that 50% of women under 21 are students. The figures for men? only 40% which means women are ahead by 10%. But this is actually a narrower gap for this year though.

Those who have lower educational backgrounds, most especially for men are still in a disadvantage despite the upward trending. Having below 50% of the rate of educated adults is still not enough for them to be able to have better qualifications for jobs.

The young adults of East Ayrshire, Falkirk and Stirling are thought of as least like to become students while those in East Renfrewshire and East Dumbartonshire are more thought to be in college. Most of them are given opportunities for further education colleges for courses such as Higher National Certificates.

Although improving in numbers, there is still much to do for the Scottish Government and it’s not a time to relax yet. These figures just goes to show at which areas Scotland has to focus on, most especially deprived areas.

The problem with education establishments these days, they are more focused on the ability of the person to pay for the education and not their ability to learn. There should be more scholarship opportunities and the possibility of ruling out tuition fees especially on community colleges should be studied so that further rise on the number of educated young adults would be shown. Education is for all and the one treasure you can have that no one can take away from you.
