Teachers Are Recent Targets Of Cyberbullying
A study was done and found out the school teachers have become subjected to online abuse and cyberbullying by the very pupils they teach. This study or research was made by the University of Plymouth and found that parents of the pupils were even part of the ones that abuse the teachers making about a quarter of the cases. Almost 400 teachers were surveyed nationwide for the study that Prof Andy Phippen conducted and it covered both primary and secondary level teachers. The students are considered the bullies as well as the victim but you can’t deny the shock there is for most of us to know that parental abuse is included in this.
There were 377 education professionals nationwide that included the survey and it carried out 10 in-depth case studies. It showed that 35% of respondents said that either they, or their co-teachers or collegues have experiencing some form of online abuse and they were from primary and secondary schools. This type of actions affect teachers any from rural to urban places. There was even one head teacher that was reported to have suffered a nervous breakdown. She had suicidal thoughts because she given an aggressive internet campaign staged by a parent that has gone on for a long time according to her.
Most parents view teachers of having fair game for abuse. What they do is hide behind code names and post lies to abuse any of their chosen victims. 26% showed that parents played their part in being bullies to teachers even though most of the cases are from the pupils themselve. A teacher was even accused in the net for malicious or inappropriate behaviour on a female pupil. The end result came as him being given psychological care to deal with loss of self worth, depression and suicidal thoughts. He may have been released by police without charges but faced suspension for five months.
Teachers are still humans and should never be subjected to such actions. Cyberbullying is not justifiable and parents shouldn’t be doing so as they are setting examples for their own children.
