Although we love having a plump feather bed pillow to sleep on each night, snuggling it every time will eventually make it feel and look worse for wear even with changing the cases. If you store it properly when not in use and care for it will keep it looking luxurious for longer and if you need to clean it, it would be easier.
If you want to keep away dust mites and oils setting on your pillow, a zipper pillow protector should be placed inside your pillow. It has to be fitted and designed for that purpose. The protector should be cleaned and removed monthly as well. Use a pillowcase to top the protector and make sure you wash it weekly or everytime you do laundry for your sheets. Twice a year, you may remove the pillowcase and then cover it to wash the fether bed pillow you are using. Look into the seams and the covers of that pillow for possible slits and tears before you will be washing it. In case they are damaged, replace them.
When you will be cleaning them in your washing machine, place two pillow to make sure the load will not be unbalanced when you wash it. Commercial washer at a laudromat is better to use but if the home washing machine is large enough then it would be okay. Use the amount of mild liquid detergent recommended by the manufacturer and pour it into the machine. Wash the pillows using warm water on the gentle setting. Rinse a second time to remove the residue of the detergent once the cycle is complete.
Place the wet pillows on a tumbler dryer along with some tennis balls or clean tennis shoes. The balls or shoes will replump the pillows as most people have tried it. Use low heat for drying the pillows as high heat can clump the feathers. Dry them for as long as six house and should be removed from the dryer while being manually fluffled in between cycles. Place them thoroughly back into the covers and cases and plump the daily in between washers to keep them fluffy. Store the pillows using breathable cloth bags in case you will not use them for a long period of time. If you use plastic bags, they will mildew and decompose. Caring for your feather pillows are important and this will keep them to good use for longer.
